The Greater Boston Food Bank, Project Bread’s FoodSource Hotline, and Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. can help you apply for SNAP. We can help you with determining eligibility, filling out an application, supporting you through the entire application process, and answering questions.

What is SNAP?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a nutrition program that gives you extra money for food. SNAP benefits are put on an electronic card that you can use to buy food at supermarkets, convenience stores, or farmers’ markets.

Who can get SNAP?

SNAP is for everyone who is eligible. Eligibility is based on income and household size. If you are within the income limits below, you may be eligible. Contact us and we can screen you for eligibility.

2022 SNAP Income Guidelines by Household Size. 1 person = $2,265; 2 = $3,052; 3 = $3,838; 4 = $4,625

What can I buy with SNAP?

SNAP is for buying food. You can buy fruit, vegetables, meat, protein, cereals, dairy, and more. You choose the food that you want to buy with SNAP. However, SNAP cannot be used to buy hot food or food at restaurants.

What else should I know about SNAP?
  • SNAP does NOT affect the immigration status of you or anyone in your family. SNAP is not considered a public charge.
  • You do not have to pay back SNAP
  • You are not taking benefits from someone else by applying
  • You can now use SNAP to buy food online from certain stores, like Amazon or Wal-Mart
  • You can get help with the application process
