Unleashing the power

of fresh produce.

We’re all battling the high cost of food (the Boston metro area has experienced the 5th highest grocery price increase in the country–6.7%–in the past 12 months), but our neighbors facing hunger feel it the most. As the cost of staple items continues to rise, fresh fruits and vegetables are often the first things cut from already tight grocery budgets, forcing local families to turn to less healthy and less nutrient dense options to put food on the table.

GBFB wants to empower everyone to put healthy food, including fresh fruits and vegetables on their tables every day. To support this work, we’ve launched our Spring for Meals campaign to help us raise money to purchase and distribute an additional 1.8 million pounds of fresh produce. Your involvement will help us reach our 2024 produce distribution goal of 33 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables. Join us in making nutritious meals a reality for everyone.

With your support of the Spring for Meals campaign, we can get more fruits and vegetables on the plates of neighbors like Anna in Haverhill, and Ricardo and Caterina in Walpole. And the great news is that a generous donor and Delta Air Lines have come together to match all Spring for Meals donations, dollar for dollar, up to the first $250,000 received, to ensure that we can meet goal of distributing nearly 2 million additional pounds of produce this year. But we need your support today because the match opportunity ends on March 31.

Key Facts:

  • We distribute more than 100 million pounds of food across Eastern Massachusetts each year—that’s healthy food provided to our more than 600 hunger-relief agency partners.
  • 33% of our annual distribution are fruits and vegetables.
  • We purchase more than 75% of the food we distribute.
  • GBFB has 2 registered dietitians on staff that drive our nutrition policy, to ensure we’re providing healthy food to our neighbors in need.
  • More than 95% of the food we distribute meets the highest SWAP nutrition standards.

We have a recipe website our neighbors—and you—can use to find healthy recipes for quick and easy meals at home. Click N’ Cook features a handy search function that allows you to find recipes that use the ingredients you have on-hand.
