FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement on USDA Decision to Stop Food Insecurity Survey from Catherine D’Amato, President and CEO at The Greater Boston Food Bank
BOSTON (September 23, 2025)
“For the past five years, The Greater Boston Food Bank has published a statewide study, in collaboration with Mass General Brigham, that seeks to understand barriers to healthy food access. We are disappointed that the USDA is halting the publication of its annual report on food insecurity. This type of data is essential to understanding the causes of food insecurity and how nutrition programs are meeting the needs of millions of food-insecure in our country. We are grateful to our statewide leaders as this study has been helpful to shape policy decisions to increase food security for those facing hunger. We remain committed to publishing our annual statewide study with private funding. This study shines a light on the food insecurity crisis in our state. It has also offered guidance to other states who have chosen to put forth statewide data. We welcome any funders who may find this work of interest.”
