Climbing Higher: A Trek to End Hunger

GBFB Board of Advisors member Diane Bevan knows that even the toughest challenges
are within reach if we keep climbing.

In August, she beat her original plan to summit five, 14,000-foot peaks over nine days in the mountains  of Colorado—surpassing her goal of an over 25,000-foot elevation gain across six peaks in eight days—and raising thousands of critical funds for GBFB on her path.

Diane felt motivated to act by recent federal policy changes that have resulted in an estimated $4 million funding loss for GBFB, and the looming cuts to SNAP and Medicaid that will significantly raise the demand for food assistance across Massachusetts in the next few years.

Thanks to GBFB’s Strength in Unity Challenge, the funds Diane raised—and all new and increased gifts made before the end of this calendar year—will be matched up to $4 million thanks to four anonymous donors. Every dollar raised will be used to purchase more healthy food for our neighbors in need.

Though Diane completed her hike, she continues to fundraise for GBFB. “I hit my target on August 13,” she wrote in a message on her fundraising page, “but the work to end food insecurity in Eastern Massachusetts continues.”
