GBFB Does Boston Magazine’s ‘The Cookout’

On August 12 and 13, The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) was honored to be the nonprofit partner to Boston Magazine’s The Cookout. For two nights, GBFB team members joined the Boston Magazine team and local chefs to raise awareness, sell raffle tickets and take silent auction bids to benefit GBFB.

The first night, called The Cue (as in BBQ), featured leading Boston chefs and their favorite BBQ dishes. Long time GBFB supporter, Andy Husbands of Tremont 647 and Sister Sorel, was there with his award winning ribs and GBFB’s personal friends, Animal Talk, were the night’s musical entertainment.

Team GBFB was back again for Wednesday’s infamous Battle of the Burger. At the end of the evening the votes were tallied and the reigning titleholder, The Blue Ox, was deemed the burger champion once again! Throughout the night, the crowd continued to support GBFB’s raffle and silent auction all while Wahlburgers filmed onsite. Friend, Paul Wahlberg, was kind enough to take a few selfies with team GBFB.

Both evenings were filled with food, music, and a great raffle and silent auction to benefit GBFB. And, thanks to the generous event attendees, GBFB raised enough funds to provide 33,357 healthy meals to those in need. That’s enough to feed almost 8 families of 4 for one year.

At GBFB, we are always grateful for the support of local outlets and the food community. We all share the same passion – to feed people. And, coming together to spread awareness about hunger and to help feed those in need is an amazing experience. We hope to see many of the new restaurants and foodies we met at our Super Hunger Brunch in January

Thank you to Boston Magazine for partnering with us on this fabulous event, to the Home Depot of Chelsea for donating a grill for our raffle, and to all The Cookout attendees for their generous support. Together, we can end hunger here.
