Running to end hunger here | The Greater Boston Food Bank

On Tuesday evening, Team GBFB members joined the ranks of more than 12,000 runners in the historic 31st annual J.P. Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge 5k race. Each year, companies from all over Boston come together to compete in a 3.5 mile race in support of  local non-profits. We, along with BUILD, were honored to be the non-profit beneficiaries of the 2014 race. After work on Tuesday, 585 Greater Boston companies showed up in their sneakers and running gear ready to compete.

Suzanne Battit, GBFB’s VP of External Affairs and Advancement, held the ribbon as the first male and female runners crossed the finish line. She also accepted the honor of being one of the race’s beneficiaries and thanked the crowd for coming out and supporting our mission to end hunger here in Eastern Massachusetts.

Team GBFB has a long standing commitment to providing healthy and nutritious food along with promoting healthy lifestyles with the communities of eastern Massachusetts, so our runners were eager to participate. Although Team GBFB didn’t officially place, we were no different from the other competitors. As our runners navigated the course, the support was evident. Fellow runners called out and pointed at GBFB’s shirts and said "hey, there’s the food bank!" and cheered us to the finish line. Our very own, Annie Laquidara (pictured), crossed the finish line in true winning form. Team GBFB loved being a part of this community that came together to support one another throughout the race while running for two great causes.  Thank you to J.P. Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge for choosing The Greater Boston Food Bank as one of this year’s beneficiaries and to all of the Boston companies who ran in support of our mission!
