Red Sox Families Celebrate 20 Years
Helping to End Hunger in Our Community

Published on August 29, 2011

In early August, the Red Sox Wives held their 20th Annual Can & Cash Drive outside the gates at Fenway Park, and set a new milestone in their decades-long support of The Greater Boston Food Bank. This year’s Drive proved again that the Boston Red Sox, their families and fans, are among the most dedicated and generous donors to GBFB.  On Friday and Saturday, August 5th and 6th, Red Sox fans donated 5,284 pounds of food and $23,226 in cash.  Together, those generous donations will enable GBFB to distribute enough food to  provide 62,688 meals to those in our community who are at risk of hunger. “For two decades, the Red Sox Wives have joined with their fans to raise almost $250,000 and more than 160,000 pounds of food for those in need,” noted Catherine D’Amato, President and CEO of The Greater Boston Food Bank.  “We’re extremely grateful for their commitment and tradition of support.  Together, we’re helping to end hunger here in Eastern Massachusetts.”
