For Thanksgiving Holiday GBFB Delivers A Bounty of Healthy Food To Partners

Published on November 30, 2022

“Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

This quote from author Melody Beattie comes via Feeding America’s recent newsletter to its nationwide network of more than 200 food banks, like GBFB, that feed more than 46 million people. This sentiment captures the spirit of our work particularly this time of year. This season of giving is equally a season of gratitude, especially for the many who support our mission year round and enable us to do the work of feeding our neighbors in need.

THANKSGIVING BY THE NUMBERS

This was one of the most expensive Thanksgivings to date, with high costs of living forcing extraordinary numbers of families and individuals to seek food across our 600 hunger relief partnersthe community based food pantries, soup kitchens, mobile markets, senior centers, and others on the front lines of hunger and food insecurity.

GBFB buys 70% of the food it secures, and gives that food to community partners at no cost.

This Thanksgiving GBFB was able to provide:

  • over 209,000 turkeys, chickens and poultry items
  • over 42,000 grocery cards to give choice to those who have different dietary or cultural food needs, or supplement what could not be provided
  • over 2.2 million pounds of fresh produce! (carrots, sweet potatoes, mangoes, broccoli, squash, apples, collards, pumpkins, yucca root, beets, radishes and turnips to name a few)
  • over 515,000 pounds of cranberry sauce, gravy, stuffing mix and can vegetables

Thank you to everyone that made this possible—and who make it possible all the rest of the days, weeks, and months of the year—our donors, food vendors, and community hunger relief partners. Together we are #FeedingEasternMA to #EndHungerHere.
