Hunger Action Month is Here!

Published on August 28, 2015

HAM 2015 Throughout September – Hunger Action Month (HAM) – The Greater Boston Food Bank strives to bring attention to the reality of food insecurity in Eastern Massachusetts. Did you know that 1 in 9 in Eastern Massachusetts struggles to have enough to eat? These are our neighbors like Mindy and Dan.
You can help by getting involved in the movement to help end hunger here with 3 simple actions:

  1. Raise awareness. Go orange on Hunger Action Day, which is Thursday, September 3! Wear your favorite orange outfit and post your picture proof of it online, along with why you share our mission to #EndHungerHere. Then join in our social media efforts all month long!
  2. Become an advocate. Support hunger-relief efforts with your voice, vote and signature. Sign up for our advocacy alert to be notified by email when there is action to be taken in our state.
  3. Donate. Every $1 provides 3 healthy meals to those in need in Eastern Massachusetts.

There’s more you can do all month long! A spoon is Feeding America’s icon for Hunger Action Month and we want it to be a tool to educate the public on the issue of hunger. This “Spoontember,” we will be challenging people to take a “spoon selfie” and share a fact about hunger.

By sharing your “spoon selfie” and using hashtag #EndHungerHere on social media, you will be calling attention to hunger and can challenge your friends to do the same. Tag us in your post on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, and we’ll like it, share it, retweet it, and repost it! Throughout the month, Team GBFB will take spoon selfies and encourage our volunteers to take group photos with their spoons.
We encourage you to learn more about hunger in Eastern Massachusetts and do your part in raising awareness during Hunger Action month. Spoontember
