The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) is fortunate to partner with so many great local companies, and we want to recognize one organization that has shown extraordinary commitment to our mission to end hunger here in Eastern Massachusetts – BNY Mellon. The firm has been supporting GBFB since its founding in 1981 by donating the critical three: time, money, and food. Although BNY Mellon has been supporting GBFB for as long as we can remember, their commitment over the last year is particularly notable.
Since last June, BNY Mellon’s total giving has enabled GBFB to provide almost 400,000 nutritious meals to those in need in Eastern Massachusetts. That’s enough to feed 90 households of four, 3 meals per day, for a year! Many generous BNY Mellon employees donated to GBFB through the firm’s annual Community Partnership Campaign and received a company match. In April, they also supported our annual Banquet, which contributed to a record-setting night that raised enough to provide almost 3.6 million meals. If that wasn’t enough, this past year, BNY Mellon generously gave a $50,000 grant to support our school-based pantry program for children and families in need. This is critical support as our School-based pantries allow GBFB to directly reach children and families in need with fresh, healthy food at convenient and safe school locations.
And, BNY Mellon has been generous with their time! A total of 135 BNY Mellon employees volunteered their time with GBFB over the past year, contributing over 300 hours toward our mission. In October 2013 alone, 50 BNY Mellon employees volunteered at GBFB to sort food for their World Food Celebration. That month they also delivered close to 4,000 cans of food from the “Canstruction” fundraiser – which had been displayed as sculptures in their lobbies before the delivery to our warehouse.
Thank you to all our friends at BNY Mellon, we would not be where we are today without your incredible support!
