With The Greater Boston Food Bank’s Fuel Costs Rising 30% in FY2026, Global Partners Pledges an Additional $50,000 to Support the Delivery of Food Across Eastern Mass

Consumer costs of fuel and groceries expected to drive food insecurity this winter and demand among GBFB’s 600+ pantry and meal program partners

Boston, MA (September 28, 2026) – The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), the largest hunger-relief organization in New England, announced today that Global Partners (Global), a leading independent liquid energy supplier and retail operator, has pledged to increase its financial commitment as GBFB’s Official Fuel Sponsor in response to rising diesel prices. The additional support will help offset the food bank’s increased fuel costs and ensure that its fleet of eight delivery trucks can continue transporting healthy food throughout Eastern Massachusetts to GBFB’s network of 600 food pantry and meal program partners.

Massachusetts families are relying more on GBFB’s network of hunger-relief partners for support amid persistently high grocery prices, rising household expenses and recent cuts to federal nutrition programs. GBFB’s 2026 statewide study, Massachusetts Food Access Report: Hunger on the Rise, found that 40% of Massachusetts households experienced food insecurity in 2025, more than double the 19% reported in 2019. As a result, GBFB’s delivery trucks have added more delivery routes to keep up with the rise in hunger. At the same time, record diesel prices have driven GBFB’s fuel expenses up by more than 30% since last year, increasing the cost of getting healthy food to communities across the region.

“We are committed to keeping communities growing, moving, and thriving, and this donation to The Greater Boston Food Bank is a reflection of that commitment,” said Eric Slifka, President and Chief Executive Officer at Global Partners LP. “Being a good neighbor and giving back to the communities where we live and work is in our DNA, and this donation is just one example of how we are working to contribute to the well-being of our communities.”

“We are incredibly thankful for Global Partners’ timely donation that will help us fuel our delivery trucks and put more money towards purchasing healthy food to serve our communities in need,” said O’Neil Outar, GBFB Chief Advancement Officer. “More households are feeling the financial pinch with higher gas prices for their car, higher home heating costs this winter, and high grocery prices. The need is great, and it’s trusted partnerships like this one that enables GBFB to support our neighbors in need across Eastern Massachusetts.”
