Prep Ideas for Holiday Leftovers

Published on December 22, 2022

While the holiday season is wrapping up, leftovers can extend that holiday cheer.

Try these options to form a new meal:

  • Turn leftover meats, vegetables, and sauces into a sandwich
  • Turn leftover bread or rolls into a bread pudding
  • Turn meat bones into homemade meat stock
  • Turn leftover turkey meat into turkey chili
  • Turn leftover mashed potatoes into breakfast fritters
  • Turn leftover meats, stuffing, and vegetables into a casserole
  • Turn leftover cranberry sauce into overnight oats or muffins
  • Turn leftover eggnog into holiday coffee latte

The Greater Boston Food Bank recipe resource, Click N Cook is handy tool to use when you are looking for inspiration with leftovers, or whatever items you have on hand. Simply enter your leftover ingredients into the Click N Cook search bar for more recipe ideas that use very few ingredients.

Remember to practice proper storage safety, especially with leftovers, to reduce the risk of foodborne illness. If perishable foods were left out for more than 2 hours, discard those items. Ask yourself if you will eat the leftovers within the next four days. Cover your leftovers with a heavy-duty lid, aluminum foil, freezer paper, or plastic bags.
