Catherine's Message Dear Friend, While many families are busy planning summer vacations, thousands of other parents in Eastern Massachusetts are wondering how they’ll feed their children during the most difficult season of the year for food-insecure families. Demand at our partner agencies grows during the summer when school breakfast and lunches become unavailable. The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) helps bridge this summer meal gap through our network of over 500 partner agencies and 70 on-site community programs. One out of every three people we serve is a child, and we’re continually giving them more of the high-quality protein, produce and dairy products they need to be healthy. Inside, you’ll read about how we’re funding capacity building at our agencies and how we’re trying new and innovative ways to get nutritious food into the hands of people in need. You’ll also read about our friend Joe and see how the healthy food he received when he was struggling empowered him to provide for his family. Your donation helps us strengthen families like Joe’s and supports our efforts to create a hunger-free Eastern Massachusetts. I thank you for your continued support. Together, we can end hunger here. But for many people who live there year-round, putting food on the table isn’t always easy. Roughly 1 in 12 people on Cape Cod is food insecure, meaning he or she doesn’t consistently know where their next meal is coming from. Last year, The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) distributed more than 4 million pounds of healthy food to our nearly 40 partner agencies on the Cape. Over 860,000 pounds of that total went to the town of Falmouth. “For several decades the Falmouth Service Center has relied on The Greater Boston Food Bank as a major partner in our fight to end food insecurity here on the Upper Cape,” said Brenda Swain, executive director of the Falmouth Service Center. One of GBFB’s largest agencies on Cape Cod, the Falmouth Service Center serves over 3,300 clients every month. Your generous support provides hunger relief in Falmouth and every other one of the 190 cities and towns GBFB serves. GBFB.org/what-we-do LEARN MORE AT
