State and Federal Food Programs

Ending hunger will require many solutions working together, including these critical government programs.

With nearly 750,000 people in Massachusetts at risk of hunger every day, GBFB advocates for policies and programs that support efforts to end hunger here and across our country. You can lend your voice to our efforts by signing up for our GBFB Action Alerts.

Federal Programs

The U.S. Farm Bill is comprehensive legislation passed every five years that authorizes most food and agriculture programs. With the 2014 Farm Bill set to expire, reauthorization discussions begin this year. The following provisions of the Farm Bill directly impact GBFB and the people it serves.

The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 authorizes core child nutrition programs. Although past its reauthorization date, the act remains in force as enacted. GBFB will monitor any proposed changes to the legislation during its reauthorization.
