Briana Loves Kids Cafe

Published on June 10, 2012

Nine year old Briana lives with her grandmother, father, sisters and other family members in Dorchester. She is a 4th grader in a school where 100% of the students are eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals. Briana’s family doesn’t have the resources to ensure that she and her sisters get enough healthy food to keep them active and strong. That’s why GBFB’s Kids Cafe program is so important. Five days a week, Briana and her sisters go to the Dorchester Boys & Girls Club, where they receive meals at the Kids Cafe that are high in nutrition. They also learn about food and how to make recipes that are fun and good for them. Briana isn’t sure what she wants to be when she grows up. She enjoys performing at the “Girls’ Open Mic,” so she could be a singer. But she also might become a chef like her father. “I love to cook healthy things with my grandma and dad,” Briana says. “And the recipes we learn about at Kids Cafe taste good, too!” Learn more about GBFB’s Kids Cafe Program at GBFB.org/kidscafe.
