The 11th Annual Greater Boston Food Banquet Raises Funds Awareness For Those In Need
$1.16 Million in Donations Will Help Relieve Hunger in Eastern Massachusetts

May 1, 2014 (Boston, MA) – As many as 500 business and civic leaders and community members came together last night at the 11th annual Greater Boston Food Banquet to raise funds for The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) and its hunger relief efforts.  GBFB helps feed children and families, veterans, college students, the elderly and working adults in 190 Eastern Massachusetts cities and towns. The $1.16 million raised will provide 3,480,000 meals to those in need.

According to Catherine D’Amato, GBFB President & CEO, the generosity of the Greater Boston community will make a real difference to friends, neighbors and colleagues who worry about feeding themselves and their families. “Our supporters know that food insecurity in Massachusetts hurts people of every age and background. Through their contributions, our sponsors and guests will help provide nutritious meals to those who might otherwise go hungry.”

The Greater Boston Food Banquet was held at GBFB’s 117,000 square foot distribution center in Boston. Among the evening’s presenters were WCVB-TV meteorologist Mike Wankum and event co-chairs Joe Kelley, President of Stop & Shop New England and Rick Roche, CEO of Roche Brothers. Presenting sponsors included Citizens Bank, FedEx, Shaw’s/Star Market, and Joanna & Nigel Travis. Sustaining sponsors include Bank of America, Amy & Joshua Boger, the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, Ted, Joel and Randi Cutler, Polar Beverages, State Street, Suffolk Red & Blue Foundation. Acosta, BJ’s Wholesale Club, BNY Mellon, HansKissle, and Snyder’s-Lance were supporting sponsors.
