Nally Awards

The 2008 Nally Award was presented to the Coyle and Cassidy High School Food Pantry,

who provide hunger relief for 300 families in Taunton each month.

The Nally Story:  In 1996 eight-year-old Dan Nally and six-year-old Betsy Nally, a brother and sister team from Westwood, Massachusetts, began collecting turkeys from their friends and neighbors to ensure that families in need would be able to enjoy Thanksgiving. Since that initial contribution of 36 turkeys to The Greater Boston Food Bank, their appeal for donated turkeys has grown into an annual event. To date, the Nallys and their organization, Turkeys 4 America have donated approximately 575,000 pounds of turkey to The Food Bank.  (Click here to watch a story about these two young people who are committed to ending hunger.)

The Food Bank established the Nally Award in honor of Dan and Betsy to recognize other outstanding young volunteers in eastern Massachusetts. The Nally Award celebrates young people who are taking action against hunger. In 2008 the award honored a hard working group of high school students who are the latest in a long line of students to run the Coyle and Cassidy High School Food Pantry. Students have run this food pantry for the past 16 years. The students provide hunger relief for 300 families in Taunton each month. They distribute the food on the last Saturday of every month and even during the months when school is not in session. Dan and Betsy Nally presented the Coyle and Cassidy High School Food Pantry with the award at The Food Bank's Partner Appreciation Luncheon in October 2008.
