Hunger Awareness Day took place in June, 2007, with events throughout the country. Started in 2002 by America's Second Harvest, Hunger Awareness Day seeks to bring attention to the 35 million Americans who are food insecure and to the role that everyone can play in the fight to end hunger in the United States. The Greater Boston Food Bank recognized Hunger Awareness Day by hosting a sorting competition during the month of June with volunteer teams preparing donated food for distribution to The Food Bank's more than 600 member agencies. The Hunger Awareness Sorting Competition is a high-energy opportunity for Boston's finest corporate and community groups to have a friendly but fierce competition while working together to end hunger. Groups inspect, sort, and repack products while competing for the titles of "Most Pounds Sorted" and "Most Pounds Sorted By Individuals."
Thank you to all of our 2007 Hunger Awareness Day Teams!! With your dedication and hard work more than 100,000 meals were sorted for the hungry in eastern Massachusetts.
