The Greater Boston Food Bank distributes approximately 30 million pounds of food annually to hundreds of local hunger-relief agencies working in partnership to serve our region's hungry.
Some segments of the population are underserved by established meals programs, most notably children, seniors, and those who are disabled. Direct Service Programs work to alleviate that problem, helping The Food Bank reach out to those groups by taking an active role within the communities it serves. These four programs - Second Helping, Kids Cafe®, Perishables, and the Brown Bag Program allow The Food Bank to directly benefit area residents.
Each of these programs depends on our partnerships with financial donors, food donors, volunteers, community organizations, Boys & Girls Clubs, the Boston Housing Authority, and our member agencies. And each of these programs is an essential source for nutritious food, education, and information, helping thousands of at-risk individuals in our region.
