Marathon Team

The world's oldest annual marathon—The Boston Marathon—combines fierce competition, individual challenge and a tradition of racers running for charity.  For the past three years, The Greater Boston Food Bank has been proudly represented by our Miles For Meals team.

This year, eight runners: Tom Sieniewicz, Jim Febeo, Michael Bradley, Matt Ottmer, Jennifer Ziskin, Stephan Trimble, Mark Graham, and Amy Law ran to raise money to provide meals to those in need.

SUPPORT YOUR FAVORITE RUNNER and make a real difference in the fight against hunger!

Tom Sieniewicz

Tom Sieniewicz is a principal at Chan Krieger Sieniewicz, an architecture and urban design firm in Harvard Square. Equally at home, in the studio and on the construction site, his great passion is making lyrical buildings that really work. He is currently working on designs for the new Greater Boston Food Bank.

Whenever he can, he plays with his three children, throws rowdy dinner parties with his wife, fishes, canoes, paints wild landscapes, coaches and plays hockey, attends MassArt at night and runs as far and fast as he can.

Despite all that, however, he is evidently not yet so smart as to hang up his running shoes and open a nice cold beer. Unwise as it may seem, this coming Patriots Day in Hopkinton, he will start his 15th marathon, his 5th Boston, his second for the Miles for Meals team. He ran a personal best, for Boston, 2 years ago inspired by his teammates and the great enterprise our runners support.

His goal in this year's marathon again, is to finish in the top ten, give the prize money to the food bank and move to Kenya, where he will form an ice hockey team and simply dominate every single game!

Jim Febeo

I have been involved with The Greater Boston Food Bank as a member of its Kitchen Cabinet for 3 years. I have often exited the Patriots Day game at Fenway to witness the marathoners head through Kenmore square saying I want to run Boston one of these days. At 38 years old, it was time for me to get on with it. Given my involvement with the Food Bank, I found Miles for Meals to be an ideal motivating factor to inspire my training and fundraising for a great cause in which it is possible for each of us to make a difference.

My only competitive long run to date was the half marathon in Hyannis last winter. It was my way of testing the waters and gaining comfort with the idea of running a full marathon. This year, I plan to use the Hyannis half as one of my training runs at the end of February, and hope to be headed across the finish line on Boylston Street a few weeks later!

I want to thank you for helping me chip away at the fight against hunger through your contributions and support of my run this April.

Michael Bradley

I took up running with a few friends 8 years ago and some how we talked each other into attempting the Boston Marathon in 2004.

Participating in the 2004 Marathon was more exciting than I could have imagined and as a result I've completed the last 6 Boston Marathons. I have had the fortune to be a member of the Greater Boston Food Bank Marathon Team for the past 3 years and look forward to participating again in 2008. My involvement with food banks dates back about 12 years working to support the Maynard Food pantry.

My day job involves working on climate change solutions for government, private clients and environmental groups at a small Concord, Massachusetts consulting firm I started 13 years ago. I live in Acton, MA with my wife Caryn who is an amazing source of support. Look for her at the very bottom of Heart Break Hill, the place where I find I need that extra infusion of encouragement.
We have 3 wonderful kids - Amanda, Rob and Hannah, all in their 20s and remarkably they actually still enjoy hanging out with us.

Matt Ottmer

I am very excited to be running with the Miles for Meals team and I'm counting on the extra motivation from supporting such a great cause to help get me to the top of Heartbreak Hill in April!

I've run the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington, D.C. twice, but this will be my first time running Boston.  I've been thinking about taking a shot at it since moving here in '99, but just haven't been able to summon the courage/will-power/lack-of-common-sense to train during a New England winter. But, we just moved from Charleston to Newton in August, so this felt like the right year to get my act together. I'm now getting in lots of training miles on the course- the Newton hills are a lot less intimidating when you haven't already run 18 miles. . . . hopefully familiarity will make them less daunting on race day.

Thanks so much for your support, knowing that I'm running for something more than personal accomplishment is truly motivating. I am incredibly blessed with a loving and healthy family, great friends, and fantastic colleagues. I am honored to support the Food Bank and its important and reachable goal of ending hunger in our community.

Jennifer Ziskin

My name is Jen Ziskin and I am very excited and nervous to be running my first marathon. I have been running to stay in shape for the last 7 years and after completing two half marathons, I always knew I wanted to run a marathon. I have three wonderful boys, Julian, 8, Lucas, 6 and Miles, 4 who keep me very busy and I own and run a restaurant called La Morra with my husband Josh.

My husband and I have supported The Greater Boston Food Bank by hosting the Hunger Brunch each year at La Morra. We donate 100% of the sales from that day and have always felt so good to be contributing to such an important local cause. It is one of the few organizations where you can see your individual dollars being spent to make a true difference.

I was so excited when I was accepted on the team for Miles for Meals, because being in the food industry for so long, it seems like such a great fit for me to run to raise money to assist in feeding those in need. Feeding others is my passion and now I can channel all of my energy into working towards a goal to help feed as many people as possible. Thank you for your support!

Stephan Trimble

With no exercise in sight and some weight gain in sight, I decided to get healthier. I learned of a running program and joined the running club that sponsored it. By following the prescribed running program, I discovered running was not as difficult as I once had thought. I also lost weight. Since 1999, I have endured three injuries and I have completed 15 races.

Besides running, I enjoy weight lifting and stretching exercises, collecting books, researching Cape Cod history, playing the piano, listening to classical music, and baseball.

My goals include reaching the Boston Marathon finish line once again, learning the Finnish language, climbing Mount Adams, and experiencing the Red Sox winning another World Series.

Mark Graham

As a "recreational" runner for many years, I have enjoyed both the solitude and invigoration of an early morning run and the camaraderie of many 5-10K charity races. This year I will be stepping up to complete my first 1/2 Marathon in February 2008, and this year's 112th Boston Marathon will be my first full Marathon. I am nervously thrilled.

I live in Pembroke, MA with my wonderful wife Stacia and our two amazing boys Jackson and Brody. When I'm not running, I enjoy fly fishing, skiing, coaching T-ball, and spending time with the family relaxing at the beach.

As a Brand Manager for Dunkin' Donuts, I have access to far too many tasty carbs at the office, so running helps keep me in check. But I get to drink coffee, and iced tea for free all day, so who's complaining.

My favorite food is a fish taco (Baja style), my favorite drink (aside from coffee) is a "pain-killer", and my favorite card game is Cribbage.

I am extremely appreciative of this opportunity to run with the Greater Boston Food Bank and the Miles for Meals team in this year's Boston Marathon. Please support the team and the Greater Boston Food Bank to help end hunger.

Amy Law

This will be my eighth marathon since starting running in my early thirties (originally to quit smoking!). I have run the New York, Boston, Vermont, and Cape Cod marathons. I have completed Boston twice, running for the Healthworks Foundation and The Liver Foundation, the latter in memory of my father.

I am currently a Principal at Axia Limited, a Boston Based management consulting firm focused on helping Fortune 500 companies identify and implement opportunities to work more efficiently and effectively to internally fund growth. At Axia Limited I lead the firm's Philanthropy Team, which has selected "Food and Shelter" as our focus area for 2007. As a member of the Miles for Meals team I hope to get our entire firm behind fundraising efforts for the GBFB! I also lead our firm's "running team" which targets local races of five miles or less, with the goal of encouraging young workaholics to exercise to help maintain sanity.

I was educated at The London School of Economics and Harvard Business School. A Belmont native, I have lived in London, LA, Dallas, and Sydney. I am now a South End resident with my Australian husband and two Australian Cattle Dogs, Jez and Tucker. I spend my free time running and throwing tennis balls at the local dog parks.
