Employee Appreciation Day – Shondel Stoner, GBFB’s Facilities Technician

Published on March 6, 2015

Total snowfall in the City of Boston has eclipsed 105 inches this past week. Boston is nearing levels never seen before and this winter is becoming the second snowiest winter in the city’s history. With 7 storms in the last four weeks, to say it’s been a tough winter would be a major understatement.   Our GBFB Storm Team have assembled well in advance of each storm to assess its affects on our operation including; deliveries and pick-ups, safety of our staff, volunteers member agencies and clients, building closures and of course snow cleanup. We have not yet been able to quantify the impact to our clients or our inventory, but we know we would not have been able to get back on track after the storms if it was not for one individual. Safety is always our first priority and Shondel Stoner, GBFB’s Facilities Technician, plays a huge role in keeping our grounds safe. Shon pays special attention to all fire exits, walkways, gateways, stairs, docks, ramps and the parking lots. Shon also works to clear snow from the fire exits and mechanical equipment, and monitors the snow density on the roof. He has been instrumental in all snow cleanup. He takes tremendous pride in having the building and grounds safe and ready for business and despite the long hours and labor intensive work, he does it with a smile on his face.   Due to Shon’s diligent work, GBFB has been able to quickly bounce back from these unprecedented storms and focus our efforts on getting back to our regular distribution schedules and our work to end hunger here.   All of Team GBFB has done an outstanding job working in the face of an unbearable winter, but we would be remiss to not acknowledge the outstanding efforts by Shondel Stoner on Employee Appreciation Day. Shon, thank you for everything that you do.
