Team GBFB is Boston’s #1 Fan!

Published on December 4, 2014

There is no doubt that Boston is a sports town and The Greater Boston Food Bank is Boston team’s #1 fan. We are so thankful to live in a place where our sport’s teams are not only winners, but also give back to their community. Here’s a look back at some recent events we have held with the city’s top teams, and their contribution to end hunger here:

Celtics Thanksgiving Distribution

On Tuesday, November 25, Celtics Coach Brad Steven’s and his wife Tracy (GBFB Board of Advisors member) hosted a special Thanksgiving holiday distribution for close to 200 families in need in the Boston area. Along with many members of the coaching staff and Celtics organization, Celtics forward Dwight Powell handed out all the fixings for a healthy holiday meal. There were turkeys, stuffing, gravy, turnips, corn, carrots, potatoes, apples, cranberry sauce, apple cider and fresh baked pies. Needless to say, the event kicked off the Thanksgiving holiday the right way and was a Slam Dunk!

Bruins 50/50 Raffle

Team GBFB is Boston's #1 Fan | The Greater Boston Food Bank On November 18th, members of Team GBFB headed to the Garden to promote that night game’s 50/50 raffle where half of the proceeds raised went to GBFB. As the Boston Bruins faced off against the St. Louis Blues, Team GBFB haggled, hollered and negotiated with fans to purchase their raffle tickets for a good cause. By the end of the night, the Bruins went home with a win and GBFB went home with enough to provide over 18,600 meals, and very hoarse voices.

Bank of America and the Patriots Volunteer Day

Team GBFB is Boston's #1 Fan | The Greater Boston Food Bank New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen and safety Devin McCourty teamed up with local Bank of America executives, including Bob Gallery, Massachusetts President (GBFB Banquet Co-Chair 3 years ago), Kerry Sullivan, President, Bank of America Charitable Foundation America (GBFB Banquet Co-Chair 3 years ago), Greg McGauley, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch (new Board of Advisors member, GBFB) and Alicia Verity, Bank of America, to help sort and pack food at GBFB on September 23rd. The event was part of the bank’s Give-a-Meal program, a collaborative effort with Feeding America.

New England Revolution Game

Team GBFB is Boston's #1 Fan | The Greater Boston Food Bank In addition to having the New England Revolution staff join us at our Chain of Giving event in November, on September 4th, Team GBFB headed to Gillette to root for the Revs as they went head to head with the Sporting KC. While there, the youngest members of the GBFB network, John Miele, Myles Goodreau and Owen Goodreau – Students at the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School, had a blast collecting donations to end hunger here in Eastern Massachusetts. They raised enough money that night to provide more than 2,250 meals to those in need. A great cause and a great win for all that night! GO BOSTON!
