Kitchen Cabinet: Fall into Fall event

Published on November 21, 2014

“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” –William Mitchell Kendall of the firm of McKim, Mead & White Architects who designed the New York General Post Office

As the wind, rain and frigid cold swept me through the front door of the Boston Children’s Museum, I immediately took solace in the warmth that greeted me inside. On Monday, November 17th Boston Magazine held its 5th annual Taste event, and on this special evening the museum was transformed into an oasis of tasty heavenly bites of food and crisp cold beverages. Over 23 Boston-area restaurants and chefs were spread out over two-floors and were hard at work creating samplings for the over 800 guests busting through the doors.   As the Events Manager, I was there to coordinate The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) Kitchen Cabinet group that was gathering there for its annual Fall into Fall fundraiser.  The Kitchen Cabinet is a group of greater Boston-area professionals dedicated to ending hunger in our community. Since 2005, the group has engaged friends, colleagues and neighbors to raise awareness and to fundraise, and tonight they were doing both! The Kitchen Cabinet hosted a silent auction filled with a plethora of items which included Nutcracker tickets, restaurant gift certificates, jewelry, autographed sports memorabilia, hotel stays and more. Bidding was competitive and constant, as guests circled the tables monitoring their bids.  And the raffle prize, a seventeen-course, chef’s tasting at restaurant O Ya, was a huge draw for all the foodies in attendance.   The Kitchen Cabinet also hosted a meet and greet where event attendees could ask questions and learn more about the group and GBFB. This group is a great combination of donating their time and money (and having fun in between!) to end hunger here in our community. If you would like to learn more about the group or want to become a Kitchen Cabinet member, please contact us at events@gbfb.org.   After making the rounds and sampling every food option (multiple times), rubbing elbows with the Kitchen Cabinet co-chairs, dancing off my food-coma to hits of the 90’s and picking-up the auction item I won, the magical evening came to an end.  So I piled my layers back on, grabbed my umbrella and let the elements suck me right back out the front door.   By Guest Blogger: Carlen Singmaster, GBFB Events Manager @EventGalCarlen
