The Greater Boston Food Bank, with support from Kraft Foods and Seashare, is targeting the seafood industry in eastern Massachusetts for nutrient rich protein donations. Seafood products always rank as highly desirable to our nearly 600 member agencies. Our Donation Managers work closely with seafood processors, distributors, and retailers, in Boston, New Bedford, and on the North Shore, wherever the fish is, to secure high quality donations.
We are also partnering with the storage and logistics providers that specialize in the seafood industry, in particular, Preferred Freezer Services with locations in Boston, Sharon, and Avon, Massachusetts as well as across the country. Preferred Freezer Services offers The Greater Boston Food Bank as a solution to their customers for overstocks and discontinued items, facilitating a seamless transfer of inventory from the customer's account to The Food Bank. Preferred Freezer Services also assists The Food Bank with logistical support and storage.
Every April when the International Seafood Show comes to Boston, our donation managers are out in force visiting existing and potential donors, following industry trends, and reinforcing our partner relationships. It is a unique opportunity for us to strengthen all our industry relationships under one roof.
The Food Bank maintains a fleet of five refrigerated trucks on the road daily and has a 50,000 square foot warehouse with 4,000 square feet of temperature controlled storage to maintain the safety of all seafood donations.
