GBFB Team Member of the Quarter: Lauren

Published on August 17, 2016

GBFB’s Team Member of the Quarter recognizes an employee who brings forward creative and innovative suggestions that help GBFB in its mission to end hunger here. Last quarter, GBFB Senior Nutrition Coordinator Lauren stepped out of her comfort zone and successfully executed a new Mobile Market in Lynn, earning her a nomination.

Stepping Up

In September and October, a number of Lynn-based hunger-relief organizations closed, and the community looked to GBFB to address the need.

After three pantries closed in Lynn last year, Lauren helped organize a temporary mobile market to serve families in Lynn who struggle to afford enough healthy food for their families.

Lauren doesn’t usually work with GBFB member agencies in this way but there was a need and she stepped up to the challenge. Lauren developed solutions that empowered the community and volunteers. Her efforts resulted in a near-flawless execution of a very complex plan.

To make it happen, Lauren attended Lynn Hunger Network meetings to identify existing or potential food resources, worked closely with the GBFB transportation team on logistics, and trained volunteers during the first few mobile markets so they could be run independently. She continues to attend those hunger network meetings and is working to find a permanent solution for the Lynn community.

Lauren also leads GBFB's Summer Nutrition Fairs, which teach kids how to live a healthier lifestyle through nutritious food and exercise.

Lauren earned the title of Team Member of the Quarter based on her innovative approach and for successfully working outside of her regularly assigned duties.

The temporary mobile market in Lynn serves approximately 400-450 households each month. It will continue to run through the end of fall 2016, giving the community enough time to create a new food distribution site.

Lauren’s commitment to the project is one of the many examples of how she embodies the GBFB values. Congratulations, Lauren!
